Hessert Looking for Redemption at Springfield Dirt Mile

Concord, North Carolina (August 17, 2016) – Returning to the site of his first career start, Tom Hessert is amped up for this weekend’s ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards feature at the Illinois State Fairgrounds dirt-mile.

Looking to avenge a heartbreaking outcome in his last series start, Hessert and his No.25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota team are ready to bounce back in Sunday’s 54th ARCA appearance at the famed Illinois dirt mile.

“Our last race still leaves a bad taste in my mouth,” said Hessert.

Coming off his strongest performance of the season and also maybe one of his biggest disappointments of his nine year career, Tom Hessert dominated at Berlin Raceway, setting a new track qualifying record and leading the first 106-laps before his chances were swept away after being driven into the outside wall after a mid-race caution restacked the field.

“We had a great run taken away from us last time out. It’s now time to get back at it and build off the positives. This team has really come together the last few weeks and have made some big gains. We’ve got another great shot this weekend at Springfield.”

Hessert, no stranger to dirt racing, competed in USAC prior to making the jump to ARCA, finishing a career best third in the 2004 USAC point standings.

“I’ve always enjoyed racing on dirt. Although running these heavier ARCA cars are a lot different than driving a midget car, the same principles apply. Track conditions and set ups will definitely come into play. The next couple weeks on the dirt should be pretty good for us,” added Hessert.

Currently occupying the fourth spot in the ARCA Series driver point standings, Hessert believes his team can better their position before the season’s conclusion.

“We’re in good position right now, I think it’s manageable. I expect to continue our recent up tick and have strong runs the next few weeks. Springfield, DuQuoin and Salem are coming up – these are some of my favorite tracks on the schedule.”

Venturini Motorsports with 41 all-time ARCA Series victories has won two out of the last three races at Springfield (Brennan Poole ’13 and Kevin Swindell ’14). Venturini Motorsports is tied for second with Harold Steele on the all-time ARCA Series team victory list. Larry Clement, who was teamed with Frank Kimmel for many years, leads the way with 71 team victories.
